HOW DOES LEARNING HAPPEN? SERIES - MORE THAN MATERIALS: ENGAGING INVITATIONS FOR PLAY

  • Earl Nicols Arena 799 Homeview Road London, ON, N6C 5J4 Canada (map)

Registration opens December 1 at 7 PM

Facilitated by: Mary Hewitt

What is the difference between a play invitation and a provocation? How do we create engaging environments and invitations that truly meet up with the minds & hearts of children?

In this session, we explore How Does Learning Happen?’s ENGAGEMENT Foundation through the lens of Materials and Invitations for Play. We will explore the important research surrounding “awe” and partake in exercises that re- acquaint us with our own deep sense of awe and wonder. In doing so, we can truly see the world (and materials!) through the ‘eyes of a child’—an essential prerequisite to offering engaging opportunities and conversations in our programs.

Educators will also have the opportunity to live-into engagement with a hands-on, creative ‘visioning’ exercise; deepen their understanding of the ‘educator as provocateur’; and immerse themselves in learning about the sacred role of ‘emergence’ in children’s play.

Pedagogical Focuses: Engagement

Standards of Practice: Standard I: Caring and Responsive Relationships, Standard II: Curriculum and Pedagogy
