“Renegade Rules” will challenge the status quo and explore how to support confident and compassionate children. Participants will be encouraged to remove their adult lenses and redefine many of their long held “norms”.
Session 2: When "Good Job" Goes Bad
This session examines the language we use to encourage and motivate children. While praise is often well-intentioned, certain phrases can undermine confidence, reduce persistence, or shift focus away from learning. Together, we’ll explore the impact of common encouraging language and identify strategies that better support self-confidence, intrinsic motivation, and resilience in young children.
While commitment to attending all sessions in this series is not required, it is strongly encouraged, as the sessions build a shared language and consistent approach to supporting children’s social and emotional development.
Other sessions in this series:
Session 1: Do I Have to Say Sorry? (May 28)
Session 3: Say No to “No Thank You” (June 25)
Pedagogical Focuses: Belonging - Expression - Well-being
Standards of Practice: Standard I: Caring and Responsive Relationships, Standard III: Safety, Health and Well-Being in the Learning Environment, Standard IV: Professionalism and Leadership
