Summer Contract (through Canada Summer Jobs)

Rate of Pay:
$21.18 per hour

Start Date:
July 6, 2026 (possibility for hours before this date)

End Date:
August 28, 2026 (possibility of hours after this date)

Hours:
Monday – Friday; variable shift between open hours: 6:45 am - 5:30 pm (minimum 35 hours per week)

Description:

We believe all children have unique needs and that the daily schedule must be flexible to meet the individual needs of each child. We embrace the varied experiences of each family and strive to ensure each child has time to learn, to play, to establish relationships, to grow, to nourish themselves, to rest, to be active and to feel a sense of belonging. Our program is designed to implement these important elements into our daily schedule while achieving the important goals outlined in our Program Statement.

Our organization provides ongoing professional learning throughout the year for our employees. We access the many resources available in our community. We strive to access resources from the international community to encourage deeper and more critical thinking about how young children learn best. We hope to share our learning and understandings with the families enrolled at our centre through regular communication, educational materials and learning workshops.

Qualifications:

  • Must be between the ages of 18-30 years of age

  • Is a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person whom refugee status protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act, S.C. 2001, c.27

  • Legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial regulations

  • Empathetic and mature individuals who can relate well to both children and adults.

  • Demonstrates passion for continued learning and the desire to learn alongside children

Responsibilities:

Will include, but will not be limited to the following:

  • Providing care for up to 8 children alone or up to 24 children with other educators in ratio.

  • Follow routine, ensure children are safe and healthy

  • Diapering, toileting, feeding and other caretaking routines

  • Developing relationships with children, staff and parents

  • Providing an engaging, healthy, and democratic space for children and adults to learn together and co-construct knowledge through inquiry, curiosity, and relationship building.

  • Supporting an inclusive environment for all children, families, co-workers, students, volunteers, and community partners, creating a warm welcoming and inviting place for everyone.

  • Helping each child become aware of their role as an integral member of a group by supporting self-realization of skills, talents, traits, dispositions, and meaningful contributions.

  • Maintaining required records in adherence with the Child Care and Early Years Act.

  • Maintaining current knowledge and adherence to regulations outlined by the Child Care and Early Years Act and public health.

  • Being responsible for ongoing reflection practice, observations, and documentation of children’s learning.
