Description:

Responsibilities as Community Connector Support:

  • Using How Does Learning Happen? Ontario’s Pedagogy for the Early Years, plan and implement inclusive early learning programs that build responsive and positive adult-child relationships, encourage children’s exploration and promote play and curiosity.

  • Create, promote and facilitate programs and services that invite conversations and information sharing related to child development, parenting, nutrition, play and inquiry-based learning and other topics that support parents/caregivers in their role.

  • Create specified programs that are tailored to children's interests and incorporate diverse learning objective outcomes by focusing on specific skills such as but not limited to; literacy, numeracy or emotional development.

  • Create and deliver parent/caregiver workshops that support and empower participants in guiding and scaffolding the learning and development of their children.

  • Cultivate a warm and welcoming environment based on the four foundations of learning (belonging, well-being, engagement and expression) that views parents and caregivers as co-learners and leaders in positively influencing the learning of their children.

  • Plan, promote and facilitate engaging virtual programming via Zoom that fosters peer socialization and engagement in a unique setting.

  • Gather information from program participants through surveys, focus groups, etc. in order to provide programing that meets the needs of the residents of the Westminster Family Centre catchment area.

  • Maintain partnerships with local groups, service providers and agencies to enhance the effectiveness of referrals and nonthreatening community access to services

  • Collaborate with our community partners to provide programs that enhance parent and caregiver well-being, enrich adult-child relationships and support parent engagement.

  • Collect, monitor and ensure the accuracy of information collected through registrations and program participation.

  • Create and display pedagogical documentation in order to share with families and caregivers.

  • Actively participate in community development activities including advocacy, awareness, outreach and community engagement and empowerment activities.

  • Actively participate in staff meetings and performance reviews.

  • Clean, launder and maintain toys, linens and equipment in line with established procedures.

  • Perform duties considering the health and safety of themselves and others in accordance with South London Neighbourood Resource Centre’s policies and all applicable legislation.

  • Other duties as assigned by direct supervisor.

Requirements:

  • Programs and services are offered in person at various locations throughout the Westminster Family Centre catchment area, indoor, outdoor, as well as online via virtual platforms such as Zoom.

  • Travel is required for this position in an array of weather conditions.

  • Candidates should be able to stand for extended periods and work at the children's level.

  • The position involves loading and unloading toys and equipment for programs, presentations, and other scheduled events in various communities, regardless of weather conditions.

  • Applicants must be capable of lifting, carrying, and moving moderately heavy or awkward items.

  • Availability to work days, evenings and Saturdays is required.

  • Attendance at meetings or events outside of regular working hours may be necessary.


Qualifications:

  • Registered Early Childhood Educator RECE required

  • This position requires the successful candidate to hold a diploma in Early Childhood Education and to be in good standing with the Ontario College of Early Childhood Educators

  • Current First Aid/CPR Certificate and a current and cleared Vulnerable Sector Check

  • A minimum of three years of experience in child and family services, with a solid understanding of early childhood development, pedagogy, and parenting support.

  • A valid Ontario Driver’s License, the capability to drive daily in varying weather conditions, along with a reliable vehicle that has insurance coverage, is necessary.

  • Familiarity with "How Does Learning Happen” and its application in program development and delivery is essential; as well as an understanding of the Child Care and Early Years Act.

  • Strong knowledge of community services and resources available, along with the processes for accessing and referring families to said resources and services.

  • Ability to communicate effectively, clearly and respectfully with children and families.

  • Ability to work independently as well as within a team to manage time efficiently.

  • Candidates must demonstrate the ability to use professional judgment in managing challenging situations, including emergencies, crises, interpersonal conflicts, and negative behaviours.

  • Ability to use computer software applications, databases, Excel, MS Word etc.

  • Availability for day, evening and weekend working hours is required.
