Description:

Village Co-operative Preschool is a parent-participation preschool located in Lambeth, Ontario. We are seeking a caring, dependable, and enthusiastic individual who is passionate about working with young children. The successful candidate will have excellent interpersonal skills, as building positive relationships with children, families, fellow educators, and our Board of Directors is essential.

Our preschool operates Monday to Friday, September through June, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

As an on-call substitute, you will be contacted to cover staff absences. While coverage may occasionally be needed on short notice, we will always make every effort to provide as much advance notice as possible.

About the Role

Working alongside our Supervising Registered Early Childhood Educator (RECE), you will help provide a safe, nurturing, and engaging learning environment for children between the ages of 2½ and 5 years. Our program emphasizes learning through play, creativity, exploration, and positive relationships.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in caring for and supervising a class of 14 preschool-aged children.

  • Support the planning and implementation of engaging, play-based learning experiences.

  • Prepare and serve healthy snacks and lunch.

  • Encourage children's social, emotional, language, and cognitive development.

  • Build positive relationships with children and families.

  • Observe and document children's development, recognizing when additional support may be beneficial.

  • Assist with classroom setup, organization, and daily cleaning and sanitization.

  • Help maintain a safe, welcoming, and inclusive classroom environment.

  • Work collaboratively with the Supervising RECE and other preschool staff.

  • Attend Board meetings and quarterly preschool meetings when requested.

Qualifications

  • Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent.

  • Minimum of two years of experience working with children in a licensed childcare or educational setting.

  • Diploma or degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field is considered an asset 

  • Student enrolled in an Early Childhood Education or related post-secondary program will also be considered.

Requirements

  • Current Infant/Child CPR and Standard First Aid Certification.

  • Current (within 6 months) Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening.

  • Meet the immunization requirements outlined in the Child Care and Early Years Act, 2014.

  • Safe Food Handler Certificate (or willingness to obtain upon hire).

  • Excellent communication, teamwork, and organizational skills.

  • Reliable transportation and flexibility to work on short notice when required.
